FABIO CALVETTI. L’ATTESA / WAITING

Fabio Calvetti. L’attesa / Waiting accompanies the exhibition curated by Antonio Natali at the CAMBIO Cultural Centre in Castelfiorentino.

The book traces over forty years of the artist’s creative journey, highlighting the central themes of his painting: waiting, solitude, the inability to communicate, memory, sensuality and the fragility of the human condition. Through suspended interiors, female figures, urban landscapes and works dedicated to the tragedies of the present, Calvetti constructs images that strike a balance between realism and vision, intimacy and civic responsibility.

The catalogue brings together a critical essay by Antonio Natali, a selection of recent and historical works, and an extensive section dedicated to the artist’s career. A biography, a list of solo and group exhibitions, and photographs of the main shows illustrate the continuity of a body of work developed both in Italy and on the international scene.

From 2000 to 2010, Antonio Natali taught Museology at the University of Perugia. At the Uffizi, prior to becoming its director, he was head of the departments of 16th-century and 17th-century painting and contemporary art. He established three publication series and an annual bulletin for the Uffizi. He enriched the Florentine museum’s collection of artists’ portraits with numerous 20th-century and contemporary works. He conceived ‘La città degli Uffizi’, a series of exhibitions aimed at promoting regions overlooked by tourism.
