Charlotte Dumas makes photographic portraits of animals that have a special relationship with humans. For instance, she photographed the horses of the mounted police in the Netherlands and Italy, and the horses at Arlington National Cemetery that accompany deceased soldiers to their final resting place. A few years ago, she documented original breeds oh horses in Japan. Since then, she has increasingly concentrated on making films, including on the island of Yonaguni where small horses still roam freely.
