The volume, part of the Contemporary Works of Architecture series, is dedicated to the UBPA (Urban Best Practice Area) pavilion realized by Studio Archea in China on the occasion of the Expo 2010 in Shanghai, within the cooperation program between the Expo and Italian Ministry for the Environment. The project represents an extraordinary opportunity to highlight the most modern ways to conceive architecture, on the basis of an approach that respects the environment, saves energy and considers the impact, in terms of quality and aesthetics, of the architecture on the landscape. The pavilion is a simple container, a neutral box that has been transformed into a mechanism for diffusing natural light without any need to consume energy, realized with a steel structure assembled mechanically without cement, something which makes it possible to disassemble and reassemble the volume, rapidly and efficiently, in another location.
