RIFUGIO DIGITALE

The Rifugio Digitale is located in Florence, at Via della Fornace 41, inside a former air-raid shelter dating from 1943. Once a place of refuge during the war, it has now been transformed into a contemporary centre where art and technology converge. The regeneration project, led by Marco Casamonti / Archea Associati, has created a flexible and innovative space dedicated to digital art and experimentation. Exhibitions, events and performances spanning various disciplines take place here, with works projected onto 16 screens along the tunnel, creating an immersive experience. The exhibition space minimises its environmental impact through the use of digital technology, whilst preserving original historical features, such as the tunnel’s structure and the spiral staircase.
Today, the Rifugio Digitale is a free venue open to all, designed for education, research and the promotion of contemporary art, capable of transforming a symbol of the past into a dynamic and international cultural space.

Riccardo Bruscagli is Professor Emeritus of Italian Literature at the University of Florence. He has extensive experience of teaching at American universities and in France. Together with Professor Tellini, he is co-author of the Italian literature textbook Il palazzo di Atlante (The Palace of  Atlas).
